Giovanni Capannelli Promoted to Godan

Giovanni Capannelli, founder of Tada-Juku Manila and a leading figure in the Filipino Federation of Aikido, was promoted to Godan (5th dan) at the Kagamibiraki ceremony at Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku on January 11, 2009.
In the aikido world, promotions up to Yondan (4th dan) are earned through examinations; beyond Yondan, for aikidoists under the Aikikai Foundation umbrella, promotions are granted by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, grandson of the Founder O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, in recognition of an aikidoist's contributions to the propagation of aikido and pursuit of personal excellence.
